Chess Olympiad - 2022 Opening Ceremony

The ceremony commenced at 4:00 p.m. with a display of musical and dance activity, in which the event’s choreographer deployed the history of India’s Tamil Nadu state throughout the ages. Between acts, we enjoyed the classical flag parade, in which each delegations’ best players took the floor – a basic activity in any Olympic movement.

The games will begin today at 3:00 p.m. at the Four Points by Sheraton Mahabalipuram Resort & Convention Center. A total of 184 teams in the open category – 158 in women – will make the Chennai Olympiad the largest in history, breaking all previous records.

GM Marc`andria Maurizzi wins Djerba International Chess Festival 2025 (Masters)

French Grandmaster (GM) Marc'Andria Maurizzi won the Djerba International Chess Festival 2025 (Masters). The winner scored 7.5 out of 9 points, a remarkable result. There was significant interest in the performance of 12-year-old Faustino Oro. The Argentine player lost his first five games and ultimately scored only 1.5 points (three draws), finishing in last place. This tournament was clearly too strong for Oro. Rk. Lei Tingjie advanced to the quarterfinals of the FIDE Women's World Cup 2025

Today, a draw was enough for Lei Tingjie to advance. It must be admitted that Umida Omonova tried hard, tightened her position, and pushed for victory. She even had a chance, as the Chinese player made a big mistake in the game by playing 39. ...h5??. If White had played 40.f4 now, they could have won.   The Ghent Chess Masters 2023 is an invitational Grandmaster Tournament in association with Thinkers Publishing, held from July 11th to 19th, in Gent, Belgium.
