FIDE Master Ahmad Najjar Wins Tuesday Battle Ground in Beirut

Despite the complex political situation in Lebanon, the game of chess continues to thrive. FIDE Master Ahmad Najjar emerged victorious in the Tuesday Battle Ground tournament, held yesterday, June 25th, in Beirut.

Over 30 chess players participated in the event, which featured a time control of 10 minutes plus a 3-second increment per move.

The game evolved to a position where White opted for a knight sacrifice on f7, which Black captured with another knight. Following 15.Qh5, Black played Nge7, gaining a significant advantage. An intriguing alternative would have been for White to continue the sacrificial strategy by playing Wxf7 instead of 15.Qh5, and after Kxf7, playing 16.Qh5.
