Humpy Koneru advanced to the semifinals of the FIDE Women’s World Cup 2025


After winning yesterday's game, Humpy Koneru needed a draw to advance. Yuxin Song tried her best, but there was never a moment where a draw was possible on the board. Koneru thus won the match 1.5-0.5 and advanced to the semifinals of the FIDE Women's World Cup 2025.

Yesterday, Divya Deshmukh eliminated Zhongyi Tan, and today, Humpy Koneru defeated Tingjie Lei in a tiebreaker. Norway Chess 2023 - after round 3

  Norway Chess is a 10-player round-robin featuring Top 5 stars Magnus Carlsen, Alireza Firouzja and Hikaru Nakamura taking place in Stavanger, Norway from 30 May to 9 June.  Each of the 9 rounds consists of a classical game where a win is worth 3 points and a loss 0. If the players draw they play an Armageddon game, where the winner earns 1.5 points and the loser 1 point.  No draw offers are allowed before move 30. The classical time control is 2 hours for all moves, with a 10-second increment per move only after move 40.  For Armageddon White (the same player who had White in the classical game) has 10 minutes to Black's 7, with a 1-second increment from move 41. Black wins if the game ends in a draw. A tie for 1st place will be decided by two 3+2 blitz games followed, if necessary, by a 5 vs. 4-minute Armageddon game. Official website

FIDE AC extends ban and revokes title of IM Andrejs Strebkovs over harassment of female players

The FIDE Ethics and Disciplinary Commission Appeal Chamber has issued its decision regarding the case of IM Andrejs Strebkovs. The case involved accusations of sending offensive and inappropriate materials, including pornographic images and used condoms, to female chess players, some of whom were minors. These actions disrupted events such as the 2021 Women’s Grand Swiss Tournament and caused significant harm to the affected players and the broader chess community. In its initial ruling, the EDC First Instance Chamber found IM Andrejs Strebkovs guilty of several breaches of FIDE’s ethics and disciplinary code, imposing a five-year ban from all FIDE-rated events. Strebkovs appealed this decision, denying his involvement and challenging the evidence and FIDE’s authority to handle the case.
