Zhongyi Tan is the third chess player to qualify for the FIDE Women’s World Cup 2025

 

The third participant in the FIDE Women's World Cup 2025 semifinals has been decided! Tan Zhongyi secured her spot by defeating Rameshbabu Vaishali today. Congratulations to Zhongyi on a strong performance, especially with her win falling on International Chess Day!

The fourth semifinalist will be determined tomorrow. The match between Deshmukh Divya - Harika Dronavalli is currently tied 1-1 and will proceed to a tiebreaker.

Julius Baer Generation Cup after round nr 12 - Magnus Carlsen on the lead

The   Julius Baer Generation Cup  is the 7th of 9 events on the $1.6 million 2022 Meltwater Champions Chess Tour and takes place on chess24 from September 18-25.  The 16-player field will be cut in half by the 4-day round-robin Prelims. The total prize fund is $150,000, with $750 for a win and $250 for a draw in the Prelims.  The quarterfinals and semi-finals are 1-day, 4-game matches, while the final will feature two such matches over two days. The players have 15 minutes for all their moves, plus a 10-second increment starting from move 1. In the Prelims there are 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw.  If a tiebreak is required the players will play two 5+3 games and then, if needed, a single Armageddon game, where White has 5 minutes to Black's 4, but a draw counts as a win for Black.  No draw offers are allowed before move 40.  Official website

Novy Bor Chess Club wins European Club Cup

Novy Bor secured the long-awaited title win in the final round of the European Club Cup in Mayrhofen with a 3.5:2.5 against Asnieres Le Grand Echiquier. It is the second championship for the Czech team after 2013. In today’s match Pentala Harikrishna lays the foundation for success with a white win against Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. On the neighboring board Vidid loses to Esipenko after six wins in a row, but boards three to five end in draws. David Anton Guijarro secures the match victory and title with a win against Matthieu. Taking the individual points for the European title are: Harikrishna 4,5/7, Vidit 6/7, Wojtaszek 3/6, Navara, 4/6, Nguayen 1,5/2, Grandelius 4,5/6 and Anton Guijarro 4,5/5 .
